The art of Gemstone painting was developed in Rajasthan about two hundred years ago. The specialty of this decorative painting style is that the shades of color are provided by the semi precious stones instead of artfiacial or vegetable colors. Rajasthan is a rich store house of precious and semiprecious stones. Hence, gemstones were easily available and put to several use, one of them being in the paintings of Rajasthan. Gemstone Paintings are made of Semi-Precious stones like Agate, Amethyst, Blood-stone, Citrine, Carnelian, Crystal, Garnet, Jade, Jasper, Lapis-lazuli, Malachite, Peridot, Tiger, Tourmaline etc. These stones are carefully selected, ground and finally pasted by accomplished and experienced craftsmen on the back side of marble, acrylic, glass sheet.
 The outline of the painting is done with watercolor giving it the sharp look Vivid imagination and hereditary skill work together in painting some of the most beautiful pictures The gem stone paintings are completely handmade, without any usage of machines. The colors are vibrant and the images intricate.
