Varanasi or Benaras is world famed for
their silk saris. It is interesting
to note that Benarasi saris gained popularity
during the Mughal Period. There are
four main varieties of the Benarasi
Saris; pure silk, organza, georgette
and shattir.
Most of the silk comes from the South
India. The process of weaving a normal
sari takes around 15 days to one month.
It is a functional art of India and
the cottage silk industry provides
employment to millions of people around
Varanasi.
