Block Printed Linen

The linen that have been decorated with block print designs are refered as block printed linen. The term ‘linen' originally referred to textiles made of flax fiber. It is one of the oldest woven fabrics. Today, however, it refers to most household fabrics:

  • Bed Linen
  • Table Linen
  • Bath Linen
  • Kitchen Linen

Bed Linen : Bed Linen refers to pillow cases, bed sheets , bedspreads , duvet covers. Gone are the days of plain colors. Today bed linen is bold and colorful, adorned with pretty designs and patterns. These can be printed, embroidered, painted on or woven into the linen. Block printed linen for the bed is very popular in India. The patterns may be animal, floral, ethnic, geometric, abstract or linear. Sometimes, bed linen is also decorated with lace. It is available in a variety of fabrics like cotton, silk, satin, flannel, terrycloth and blends.

Table Linen: This encompasses the table cloth, tray cloth, mats and napkins. Like bed linen, table linen can also be printed, painted, or embroidered with attractive designs. It can also be self-designed. Block printed linen for tables is attractive, colorful and traditional. Moreover, crocheted table linen as well as ethnic Indian tie-dyed linen, or linen with batik , kalamkari , or chikan work is very appealing.

Kitchen Linen : This includes dish towels, aprons, oven gloves, cloth wipes. There is nothing that can brighten up a kitchen as bright colorful linen can. This linen is subject to relatively harsh conditions like high temperatures, food stains, food coloring, oil stains and others. The fabric that is used is appropriately selected, keeping this in mind. Moreover, embroidered designs and those that are painted are not the desirable decoration choices, as they are better suited to conditions that do not involve wear and tear. In such a scenario, block printed linen for the kitchen becomes a preferred option.

Bath Linen : Bath linen includes bath towels, hand towels, bath mats.
